Securing Talent | Weekly Wrap-Up

Phillip Lasker of the Kohler Report confirmed Australia’s unemployment rate holding firm at 5.2%.  42,000 jobs were created last month but the vast majority were part-time. So, more people have gained employment but are working for less hours consolidating a continuing under-employment trend. For wages growth to improve, unemployment needs to move towards full employment (4.5%). The RBA is suggesting that interest rates will need to continue to fall to push the jobless number to below 5% to generate any wages growth.

Our own micro experience sees a continued strength in the permanent job market with no let up in sight at this stage which means that it is a candidate tight market, where any good candidates are in demand and have choices. They are therefore more challenging to find, engage and secure as they have plenty of choice as to where they land. Those organisations that have a firm handle on their EVP and a sense of urgency around the recruitment process will be successful in the fight to secure talent.
