How do you get the best out of a recruitment agency?
Relationship is critical. You want to work with an agency that understands your organisation, the culture, warts and all. A strong relationship also means mutual respect and usually a proven track record. Don’t forget this cuts both ways. By working collaboratively and respectfully together both parties will develop trust
Trust is key on both sides. Honesty and willingness to hear the good, the bad and the ugly is important. Being realistic around delivery expectations, be they restricted by brand, salary, time, supply, and willingness to be guided by your recruiter is wise. Trusting your recruiter to do their job without the pressure of competing with other agencies is key to gaining that recruiters 100% attention on your project. Don’t make it into a race between competing agencies. You will never get an agency’s focus by sharing the brief.
Focus on your recruitment need is what you want your recruiter to have and that will only happen with Exclusivity, Exclusivity, Exclusivity. This should be obvious if you also have the above in place
Clear brief is an obvious one, but making time to provide this will pay off in spades
Agreed time lines to deliver so each party has a clear understanding of what will be delivered and by when.
Open communication channels, which means both parties being available and returning communication in a timely manner. This is critical and a respectful way to work
Honesty, being prepared to hear what may be hard to hear and that goes for all parties.
Simply put, it is a partnership that works both ways and that is how to get the best out of working with a recruitment agency
